Symon Beattie

2016 was the beginning of my journey at Hira School.

As an educator, I am a passionate about empowering students with the knowledge and skills to become adaptable and resilient lifelong learners. I value the differentiated learning promoted in the Hira School Curriculum and the strong culture of collaboration that exists in the school.

My wife, Mel, and I live in Stoke and have two preschool aged daughters, Isla and Madelyn. We love to spend our weekends at the beach or out on the water.

Pam Stack - Teacher - Middle 'Rimu' Room

I teach the children in the middle school and been the Deputy Principal at Hira School since my arrival in 2002.

I love working in small rural schools. The sense of belonging and community presence that exists at Hira makes it a pleasure to be part of.

My roots are in the small seaside village of Hector on the West Coast. I gravitate back there whenever possible for relaxation and recharging.

Meanwhile in my home in Nelson, I enjoy anything musical, reading, keeping fit and spending time with whanau and friends.

I manage the Office Administration/Reception area each day, having joined the team at Hira School in May 2016.

Nicky Crawford - Teacher - Senior 'Totara' Room

I’m Nicky and I joined the Hira School team in Term 1 of 2018 to teach full-time in the Senior Room.  I previously taught at Lake Rotoiti School for 13 years, teaching right across the school, from Year 1 to Year 8.

I am passionate about education in country schools and I love the variety and surprises of country school teaching, as well as working with lively country children.  I have a passion for Philosophy for Children, science and writing amongst other things.
Sally Jamieson,

Sally Jamieson - Teacher - Junior 'Kahikatea' Room

My name is Sally and I co-teach the Junior Room alongside Nic Moynihan.

I have loved working at Hira School since 2000, predominately as the new entrants teacher.  My other ‘hats’ have included reading recovery, release teacher and ORRS teacher.

I also enjoy spending time with my family, gardening, reading, travelling and working on our piece of paradise on Takaka Hill.

Nic Moynihan - Teacher - Junior 'Kahikatea' Room

I joined Hira School Term 1 of 2018, to co-teach with Sally Jamieson, in the Junior Room.  My family are very excited to be joining the Nelson North community!

I’ve been teaching for around 15 years at a variety of schools having covered all year levels during this time. My absolute passions are teaching writing, music, art and Te Reo Maori with utmost enthusiasm!

I’m Sam and I have worked at Hira School in various roles for the last 15+ years.

In 2018  my teacher aide role will support the teaching team (Sally and Nic) in the Junior Room.  I am also Transitions Support Manager, Librarian and assist with ICT.

I have been a long-term member of the Hira School team as a part-time Teacher Aide.

In 2018 I will be supporting Pam Stack and the middle school children in Rimu Room.

David Brydon,

David Brydon - Teacher Aide and Sports Coordinator

Kia ora!  I joined the Hira School Staffing Team in February 2017, to provide teacher aide support in the new entrants class and take on a new role of Sports Coordinator for the school.

I currently have one child at Hira School and another one to follow.
Jane Pearson,

Jane Pearson - Relief Teacher

For 2018 I am a relief teacher, supporting the wonderful teaching team at Hira School.

I first joined the team at Hira School in 1995 as the principal release teacher and taught for many years in the Senior Room.

Our school is a wonderful place to be, and every day I feel privileged to play a part in the lives of the children who come to Hira.
Anna Chitty,

Anna Chitty - Relief Teacher

Kia ora, my name is Anna Chitty.  I began teaching at Hira School in 2017 where I shared the role of teaching the Senior Room students with Jane Pearson.

During 2018 I will be supporting the school as part-time relief teacher.

I am very passionate about learning – in particular learning languages, mathematics, visual art and drama.
